WIMBLEDON 2013: The Women’s final is set: Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli will take on Sabine Lisicki of Germany
2013-07-04 – The 2013 Wimbledon Women’s final will feature No.15 seed and 2007 runner-up Marion Bartoli going up against Sabine Lisicki, the woman who defeated the No.1 player in the world in the fourth round.
With none of the top three players in the world – Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova – around at the business end of a Grand Slam, Wimbledon 2013 will crown a first-time Women’s Champion.
Bartoli and Lisicki will need to get their semi-final celebrations out of the way quickly. They’ve got a Wimbledon final to play on Saturday.
Fact: Germany has its first woman in the final since Steffi Graf in 1999, and her name is Sabine Lisicki. “I just can’t wait to play on Saturday,” she said. “Marion plays aggressive tennis. I have played Serena who plays aggressive too. We’ll see. Two years ago I played an amazing Wimbledon as a wildcard [where she lost to Maria Sharapova in the semis]. This time I feel much more ready for the entire tournament and I have that belief.”
